Dental Implants

At North York Family Dentistry, we specialize in dental implants, which are artificial tooth roots placed in the jaw to replace missing teeth. There are many reasons patients may need implants, including tooth loss from decay, gum disease, injury, or to restore both function and appearance when natural teeth are no longer present.

Types of Dental Implants

We offer different implant solutions to meet individual needs:

Single Tooth Implants: Ideal when one tooth is missing, a titanium implant is placed in the jaw and restored with a custom crown that looks and functions like your natural tooth.

.Implant-Supported Bridges: If you are missing multiple teeth, implants can support a bridge without relying on adjacent healthy teeth, preventing the need for filing down or weakening surrounding teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures: For patients missing most or all of their teeth, implants can secure a full or partial denture in place, offering more stability and comfort than traditional removable dentures.

Procedure & Recovery

Before beginning implant treatment, our dentist will perform a comprehensive evaluation, which may include X-rays or 3D scans, along with a review of your medical history. This helps determine the health of your jawbone and whether bone grafting or other preparation is needed before implant placement.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and sedation options are available to ensure comfort. First, the implant post is surgically placed into the jawbone. Over several months, it fuses naturally with the bone in a process called osseointegration. Once healed, a crown, bridge, or denture is securely attached to restore your smile.

Recovery time can vary based on the number of implants placed, but most patients only experience mild discomfort, which can typically be managed with over-the-counter or prescription medications. To support healing and ensure long-term success, it is important to follow your dentist’s aftercare instructions. This includes eating soft foods, maintaining good oral hygiene, and avoiding smoking.
